Now that we have had a few weeks of summer sun, the garden is making up for lost time. Suddenly, we are harvesting sugar peas for days, while the pepper plant blossoms are still deciding if it’s warm enough to pop out and play. The sunflowers are blooming, the potatoes think it’s September, and Sadie keeps sneaking into the carrot patch and digging them up (my fault, I taught her they are “biscuits”)! She is pretty cute, though, posing among the leaves. But I had to place a small fence around the carrots to make sure we have some grow to full size!
I’ve always wondered which time of day is best to water the garden. I feel like evening is best, because the water has all night to soak in without drying out. But when I forget to water at night (or fall asleep before it’s cooled down enough to go outside and water), I have to water in the morning so the plants don’t shrivel in the heat. What’s your opinion on time of day for watering? Drop a comment below, I’m curious to hear what you do in your own garden!
Ann Coleman says
I either do it first thing in the morning, or in the evening. Never in the middle of the day, when the sun is most intense.
